According to HP, small is the new big and that seems to be the selling point of their new and upcoming smartphone, the HP Veer that was first announced back in early February and is scheduled for release on May 2nd at a HP press event. As reported it will run the HP webOS 2.1 and powered by an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor. Specs-wise a 2.6-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 320×400 pixel resolution is expected, HSPA+ 3G connectivity, there is a 5-Megapixel Camera, 8GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi connectivity and a full slide-out QWERTY keypad. The handset will feature slightly larger keys that the Palm Pre 2 for easier typing and after its launch next month it should be headed to AT&T.
In addition to the HP Veer, HP has also announced its upcoming Palm Pre 3 webOS-powered Smartphone as well. It is the successor of the well-known Palm Pre that was released by Palm before they were bought out by HP. Similar to the Pre, Pre 2 and the Pre Plus, the Pre 3 also comes with a sliding QWERTY keyboard and a large 3.58-inch 480×800 WVGA touchscreen display. The Palm Pre 3 also comes with a 5-Megapixel camera with LED Flash, Autofocus and 720p HD video recording and there is a front-facing VGA camera for video chats.
The new Palm Pre 3 will be powered by a Qualcomm 1.4GHz processor, it comes with an option of a 16GB or 32GB storage, 512MB of RAM and other specifications including WiFi connectivity with a WiFi hotspot feature that enables the user to share their 3G connection with up to five devices, their is Bluetooth connectivity, built-in GPS, dual-mic noise cancellation, ambient light, proximity, and a compass. The HP Palm Pre 3 is expected to be released this summer in two version, one for EVDO Rev.A networks and another version for HSPA+ networks. No pricing information has been found on the new HP Palm Pre 3 as yet..
HP has finally decided to show the reason they really bought Palm with the release of the new HP Veer which is a Smartphone that looks very similar to the Palm Pre. It is the smallest webOS phone to date, it is about the size of a credit card and weighs a mere 103 grams as it is as thick as a deck of playing cards. The Veer is powered by a Qualcomm MSM7230 800MHz processor, it has a 2.6-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 320×400 pixel resolution, there is a 5-Megapixel Camera, 8GB of internal storage along with features such as Bluetooth, WiFi and AGPS Support. It also uses a 5-pin magnetic connector instead of a micro USB port plus it will work with any carrier worldwide that supports quad-band GSM/EDGE and HSPA connectivity. The HP Veer is scheduled for launch this spring, there is no word on which carrier in the US will be offering the Smartphone first.
It is Samsung’s coming out day as they recently announced a bunch of new smartphones and in this post we focus on the Samsung S5260 Star II. The Samsung S5260 is know as the Star II as it is the successor of the Samsung Star, it features a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 user interface which enables the user to customize the look of their homescreen using a variety of widgets. The Star II comes pre-loaded with apps such as Twitter and Facebook plus multi-IM 2.0 which enables the users to chat via Facebook and other IMs.
Other specifications includes a 3.2-Megapixel Camera, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, an FM Radio and support for USB 2.0 connectivity. The Star II will be available in February in Germany, and will be available in other European countries, CIS, South America, India, and the Middle East after. No pricing information has been found as yet
Samsung also has a new 4G-enabled handset going to the Verizon Wireless Network, the Samsung SCH-i520 4G LTE Android Smartphone. The handset was announced at the CES 2011, it features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Touchscreen display, there is an 8-Megapixel camera with LED flash, there is a 1.3-Megapixel front-facing camera for video chats, it is powered by a 1GHz processor and runs the Android 2.2 OS with TouchWiz 3.0 UI. There is no word on when the handset will be available to Verizon subscribers and no pricing information either.
Huawei will also be at the CES 2011 and they will be officially launching the Huawei IDEOS X5 at the event. The sad part of it is that after the handset is launched at the CES on January 6th and it will be released in in Hong Kong on 19 January for a price of HK$3000, so basically we are not sure if it will be making its way to American stores. The IDEOS X5 comes with a 3.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 800×480 pixel resolution, it has a 5-Megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording and autofocus, there is also a front 0.3 Megapixel camera for video calling, it is powered by Qualcomm’s MSM7230 800MHz processor and runs Android 2.2 OS.
Motorola’s unannounced Olympus MB860 Android device that runs the Tegra 2 processor that was recently made known through a conversations on Facebook with an AT&T Representative and today we have some shots that were leaked recently. It has been revealed that the device comes with a large 4-inch touchscreen display and runs the Android 2.2 OS. Samsung has joined hands with Fashion Brand Giorgio Armani to launch the Galaxy S Giorgio Armani Edition Smartphone. It is basically the Samsung Galaxy S Smartphone with the Giorgio Armani embedded. More like the version available from AT&T, the Captivate.
It features the same 4-inch Super AMOLED Touchscreen display, it is powered by a 1GHz Processor, it has a 5-Megapixel Camera with 720HD video recording, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi connectivity. It runs the Android Froyo 2.2 OS with an custom UI. It will be available in Giorgio Armani boutiques and leading mobile retailers in Italy, France, the U.K., Germany, Dubai, China, Hong Kong, Spain, Russia and the Netherlands starting from December. The Samsung Galaxy S Giorgio Armani Edition will be price at 700 euro per unit and this is only because it has the Giorgio Armani logo.
